NCR Printing

What is Carbonless (NCR) printing?

Carbonless, NCR printing is a method of document duplication that allows handwritten documents to be easily and instantly copied – without the need for photocopying or extra printing. When one writes on the top sheet, the NCR technology transfers and duplicates the information to a subsequent sheet below, eliminating the need for messy carbon paper. Ideal in an environment where quick copies are required, it simplifies the upkeep of business documentation. With NCR printing, it’s easier than ever to maintain records, keep customers happy and deliver an effective service.

With NCR printing from ABC Design and Print, we take it one step further. Not only do you get all the ease of NCR, you get it with an efficient and friendly service. ABC go above and beyond to deliver the best without fail. We aim to beat all genuine NCR printing quotes!

NCR Printing came from carbon copy, where one sheet of carbon paper was inserted between two pieces of paper. Due to the method of transferring information, it often leads to errors and inaccuracies in the data, including illegible words and numbers. For obvious reasons, this caused problems, which is where NCR comes in.

NCR functions differently. Rather than having a separate sheet between the original document and the copy, the paper itself is coated with invisible substances, removing the extra sheets, and reducing the mess and faff. There’s a microscopic layer of ink on the underside of the original paper — called ‘microencapsulated dye’. On the copy, there’s an invisible layer of clay molecules. When a sharp point, such as a pen, presses on the top sheet, it ruptures the dye capsules beneath. They undergo an instantaneous chemical reaction with the clay, producing a mark on the copy paper.

This process provides a highly accurate method of copying data that minimises the errors and problems associated with carbon copy. It can create duplicate, triplicate and even quadruplicate copies, according to your specific needs.
